Representatives of women’s organisations from Kakching District have voiced strong opposition to the recent transfer of Kakching Superintendent of Police Priyadarshini Laishram to Jiribam, stating that the decision was abrupt and detrimental to public security and administration.
In a move to express their discontent, they submitted a memorandum to the Governor of Manipur at Raj Bhawan in Imphal, urging immediate reconsideration of the transfer order.
Addressing the media after submitting the memorandum, M. Pishak, a member of the Kakching Bazar Board, pointed out that Kakching District has witnessed frequent transfers of its SPs, disrupting the continuity of law enforcement and public relations.
She stated that such repeated changes prevent the residents from building a stable relationship with the district’s top police officer, which in turn affects effective policing.
She further expressed concern over the premature transfer of Priyadarshini Laishram, who, according to the representatives, had been diligently executing her responsibilities with the full cooperation of the people, particularly for the welfare and security of women in the district.
The protesters highlighted that the SP had taken charge only a month ago, and her sudden reassignment to Jiribam was unjustified given the positive rapport she had established with the people.
They argued that her leadership had contributed to strengthening the relationship between the public and security forces, which is crucial at this juncture.
Given these factors, they found the transfer order unreasonable and called for urgent intervention to ensure her continuation in the district.
Furthermore, members of Kakching Keithel IMA Lup and Kakching Apunba Nupi Lup, who were also part of the protest, reaffirmed their opposition to the transfer.
They stated that they would not welcome a new SP in the district.
