Women folk of Wangkhei today staged a sit-in protest at Puja Lampak in Imphal East district, raising serious concerns over the unfinished edges of a newly constructed RCC road in the area, which they claimed has turned into an accident-prone zone.
The protesting women alleged that despite completion of the main stretch of the RCC road, its edges have been left unattended, posing a constant threat to pedestrians, commuters, and two-wheeler riders, particularly during night hours.
They said several minor accidents and near-miss incidents have already occurred due to the abrupt and uneven road edges.
Expressing strong resentment, the women demanded immediate intervention by the concerned authorities to properly finish the road shoulders and ensure public safety.
