Imphal, May 5 (Tuesday): Women from Tarung, Tharon, Neikalong, Guigailong, Grace Colony and Chiru Rem Colony staged a sit-in protest at Tarung Community Hall on Tuesday, expressing strong condemnation over the killing of two innocent children at Tronglaobi and the deaths of three civilians allegedly involving central security forces on April 7.
The protest was organised under the aegis of AMUCO, AMAWOVA, COHR, MSF and PLMPAM. A large number of women gathered at the venue, holding placards and raising slogans demanding justice for the victims and accountability for the incidents.
A prominent banner displayed at the protest read: “If Central security forces cannot protect the lives and property of the public, they should leave.” The message reflected growing concern among residents over safety and security.
During the protest, the participants also condemned the killing of two individuals at TM Kashom in Ukhrul district by suspected Kuki militants. They expressed solidarity with the bereaved families and denounced the continuing loss of innocent lives.
Participants stated that such incidents have created fear and uncertainty among the public, particularly affecting women and children. They urged the authorities to take responsibility, ensure protection of civilians, and take necessary steps to prevent recurrence of such tragedies.
The protest concluded with a collective appeal for justice, restoration of public confidence, and immediate measures to safeguard the lives and property of the people.
