March 03, 2025: Empowering women is crucial as they play a major role in society, contributing significantly to income generation and overall development, said Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang, Chairperson of the Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW). She was speaking at a One-Day Sensitization Programme on the “Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013,” held today at the Farmer’s Training Hall of the Directorate of Agriculture, Sanjenthong, Imphal.
The programme, jointly organized by MSCW and the Directorate of Agriculture, Government of Manipur, aimed to spread awareness about workplace safety and legal provisions under the Act.
Monsang emphasized that understanding and addressing sexual harassment is crucial in ensuring a safe and inclusive work environment. She urged that both men and women must work together to resolve challenges and create a culture of respect at the workplace. While no cases of workplace harassment have been reported in the department so far, she encouraged employees to approach the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) if any issue arises.
Legal expert Thiyam Rajkishore Singh provided insights on the provisions of the Act, explaining different forms of sexual harassment and the complaint redressal process. An interactive session between experts and participants was also held.
Presidium members of the event included Member Secretary W. Phajatombi Devi, MSCW Members Lourembam Dayabati and Sofia Mayon, and Director of Agriculture Peter Salam.
The MSCW Chairperson appealed to all attendees to take the message forward and help create wider awareness about the Act, ensuring a safer and more equitable workplace for women.
