Feb 12, 2026 (IMP/UKL/CCpur): Even after five days, the situation in Manipur’s Litan areas of Ukhrul district remains volatile. On Thursday morning, three new houses were found to have been set on fire by unknown miscreants, raising the tally to nearly 70 houses.
In the conflict that broke out on February 7 between the Tangkhul Naga and Kuki communities, the chieftain of Litan Khanringpam, Vashum, son of Deepak Vashum, has been rendered homeless and is taking shelter in a nearby village. His house, vehicle, and other immovable properties were reduced to ashes on Sunday, forcing him to flee with his family to save their lives.
The displaced families who fled homes located at Litan Sareikhong have expressed a loss of faith in the presence of security forces and demanded the flushing out of Kuki militants suspected to be present in the vicinity. A stand-off was also witnessed in Litan when women belonging to the Tangkhul community attempted to march toward their native place and were stopped by security forces.
Meanwhile, in Churachandpur district, a large group led by the Vaiphie Women Association (VWA) marched in protest toward the residence of MLA LM Khaute on Thangzam Road. The protest was largely against the MLA’s participation in the formation of a new government. However, the protesters were intercepted by security personnel, while another large group of women reportedly gathered in defence of the MLA’s decision and stand.
