The Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) on Tuesday organised a one-day sensitization programme on the “Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013” at the SIRD Hall, RD & PR Directorate, Imphal East.
Highlighting the emotional impact of harassment, MSCW Chairperson Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang remarked that when a senior harasses a junior, it creates a hostile environment, making the workplace feel unsafe and demotivating for the victim. She urged women to speak up without fear, assuring that the Commission offers a safe, confidential platform for complaints along with counselling and legal support.
Member Secretary of MSCW and Additional Director (IPR), W. Phajatombi Devi, stated that the programme is part of an ongoing campaign to raise awareness about women’s safety at work. She underlined the importance of Internal Committees in addressing complaints in line with the 2013 Act.
Director of RD & PR, Ksh. Umananda Singh, pointed out that while such cases are less frequently reported in Manipur, they remain prevalent across the country. He called for greater empathy and support to ensure safer workplaces.
A technical session on the Act was conducted by advocate Thiyam Rajkishore. The event was also attended by MSCW members Chuongsin Koireng, Lourembam Dayabati Devi, and SK. Sophia Moyon.
