Kakching, Aug 31: A workshop on the GIS-based Revised Master Plan for Kakching Town was held today at the Kakching Municipal Council Auditorium, organized by the Town Planning Department, Manipur, in collaboration with the Kakching Municipal Council, under the framework of AMRUT 2.0.
The session focused on preparing a comprehensive Master Plan, particularly addressing the proposed revision of the boundaries of Greater Kakching and the Kakching Municipal Council.
The workshop brought together a wide spectrum of participants including public leaders, members of civil society organizations (CSOs), NGOs, clubs, intellectuals, and local stakeholders for in-depth consultation.
During the technical discussions, Chief Town Planner N. Benju, SMMU Team Leader N. Gitkumar, and Associate Town Planner Manas Maisnam served as resource persons. They presented the components of the revised plan, emphasizing the need to redefine the 12 ward boundaries, address issues relating to urban expansion, and incorporate key areas such as Kakching Bazar, parking facilities, roads, bridges, parks, and public institutions. They also introduced strategies like land pooling to support systematic land development. Video presentations and interactive sessions encouraged active participation and exchange of ideas.
The discussions were moderated by Nongmaithem Modhu, President of the Kakching District Bar Association, alongside N. Rajmohan, former Vice-Chancellor.
Prominent figures including Ex-Minister Nongmaithem Nimai, Wabagai MLA Dr. Usham Deben, former Kakching MLA Yengkhom Surchandra, KMC Senior CEO Th. Sidartha, Caretaker Chairperson Naorem Sanjitkumar, and caretaker councillors were present. Around 80 representatives from CSOs and local clubs also took part.
The workshop concluded with a shared commitment among all participants to ensure that the revised Master Plan is both practical and implementable, reflecting the needs and aspirations of Kakching’s growing urban landscape.
