World Animal Day and Wildlife Week Observed in Chandel

The 100th World Animal Day was observed alongside the 71st Wildlife Week at Ziontlang Village, Chandel,on Saturday with the participation of villagers from the surrounding areas.

The programme was attended by Dr. N. Munal Meitei, DFO Chandel, Shri Th. James Chothe, Chief of Ziontlang Village, Shri Youthsan Chothe, former Chief, and M. Rocky, Pastor of the village as presidium members.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. N. Munal Meitei highlighted that the 71st Wildlife Week is dedicated to protecting wildlife and preventing them from vanishing from forests and homes, while the 100th World Animal Day shares the same mission. This year’s theme, “Save Animals, Save the Planet”, reminds us of the crucial role animals play in maintaining balance in nature and sustaining human life.

He emphasized that every living being, whether big or small—ants, insects, birds, or animals—has a significant role in the ecosystem. Humans depend on them for survival in ways often unnoticed. If we exploit or destroy them, the earth itself will suffer. Therefore, it is vital to conserve all life forms with compassion, for they too are essential companions of humanity.

Dr. Munal further stressed that animals are inseparable from human lives; they share our homes, environments, and emotions. They contribute to human happiness, help relieve stress and blood pressure, uplift moods, and strengthen bonds within families and communities.

Concluding his address, Dr. Munal appealed to the gathering to protect and nurture animals, both domestic and wild, not only for ecological balance but also for the well-being of human society. He urged everyone to make caring for animals an integral part of their daily lives.
