Thoubal, 14th September 2025 : Along with the global observance, World Diabetes Day 2025 was marked today at the Primary Health Center, Khongjom in Thoubal District. The event was organised by the NCD Cell, District Health Society Thoubal, with a focus on raising awareness about prevention, early detection, and management of diabetes.
Chief Guest Dr. Y. Nokul Singh, Chief Medical Officer Thoubal, stressed the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle to prevent diabetes. He encouraged the public to engage in daily exercise or regular household activities to stay fit. Urging people to reduce intake of oil and salt, he appealed to the community to visit nearby health facilities—Primary Health Centres, Sub-Centres, Community Health Centres, or District Hospitals—for routine check-ups. He noted that under the NCD programme, free medicines are provided to diabetes patients. Dr. Nokul further advised the public to refrain from alcohol and other intoxicants to maintain good health.
The function was also attended by Dr. M. Bikramjit Singh, District Nodal Officer, NCD Cell Thoubal; Dr. Th. Samananda Singh, MO in-charge of PHC Khongjom; and Shri Ch. Basanta Singh, District Programme Manager.
Speaking at the event, Dr. M. Bikramjit underscored the need for early screening to identify diabetes before complications arise. He highlighted that stress, work pressure, and mental health issues can contribute to diabetes, and urged people to maintain a healthy balance between work and well-being.
The global theme for World Diabetes Day 2025 is “Diabetes & Well-Being.”
As part of the observance, a free medical camp was conducted, and medicines were distributed to patients.
