Thoubal, March 21: As celebrated across the world, Khorirol Sandok-lup Wangjing, Manipuri Sahitya Parishad Thoubal District Branch, and Ningol Khut Manipur Wangjing jointly organized and celebrated “World Poetry Day” at Khorirol Sanglel in Wangjing on Saturday.
At the event, Vice President of Ningol Khut Manipur Wangjing, Yumnam Esheihenbi Devi, attended as Chief Guest, while former President of Khorirol Sandok-lup Wangjing, Nahakpam Biren, and former President of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad Thoubal District Branch, Kartik Maiba, attended as President and Guest of Honour respectively.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Sanasam Nabadweep, a renowned critic, spoke on the significance of World Poetry Day and its relevance.
A “Souvenir” was also formally released in connection with the event.
Later, a discussion session was held, which further enriched the event. In the discussion, Tongbram Babulal presented on the topic “Literature and Society,” and Nongthombam Sanjib presented on the topic “Modern Manipuri Poetry.”
Moreover, a “Poetry Recitation” session was also held as part of the event, where the renowned poet Shaikhom Chaoba was the moderator. More than 15 poets recited their own poems.
Meanwhile, along with various parts of the world, World Poetry Day was also observed at the Lois Kakching Hall on Saturday.
The event was organized by the Writers’ Association, Kakching. Retired Headmaster Moirangthem Mukund attended as the Chief Guest, while Retired Director of JN Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal, L. Upendra Sharma Shastri, was the Special Guest. The function was presided over by Pukhrambam Nimai, President of the Writers’ Association, Kakching. During the programme, L. Upendra Sharma Shastri spoke on the significance of World Poetry Day and its relevance.
In addition, another programme was organized by the Sahitya Seva Samiti, Kakching, at the residence of Kshetrimayum Rajendro and Nongmaithem Birohini at Naodam Pareng, Kakching Makha Leikai.
Retired Research Officer (S-4), CCRH, Government of India, Dr. Th. Ojit attended as the Chief Guest, while Vice President of Sahitya Seva Samiti Kakching, M. Kunjakesho, presided over the function. Associate Professor in Commerce, KMC Kakching, Y. Raju attended as Guest of Honour. Former Secretary of Sahitya Seva Samiti Kakching, Dr. P. Rajendra, served as the resource person and spoke on the observance of World Poetry Day.
As part of the programmes, several poets recited their self-composed poems, which were well received by the audience.
