Thoubal, Dec 5: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Thoubal observed World Soil Day 2025 on Friday at its campus, under the global theme “Healthy Soils for Healthy Cities.”
The programme was attended by L. Shantikiran Devi, Rice Breeder, RRS Wangbal; Khaidem Malemnganba Meitei, District Officer, Horticulture & Soil Conservation, Thoubal; and Dr. Kh. Premlata Devi, Senior Scientist & Head (In-charge), KVK Thoubal.
As part of the event, Soil Health Cards along with critical inputs were distributed to farmers from Kakching and Thoubal districts. A technical session followed, which included a farmer–scientist interaction on soil management and sustainable practices.
Speaking at the programme, L. Shantikiran Devi highlighted the urgent need to address soil degradation. “The degradation of soil is a major concern, and we need to take immediate action. We should focus on organic farming to conserve soil health,” she said.
