A powerful unexploded bomb, suspected to be from the World War II era, was safely defused by the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) team of Manipur Police at Langathel hillock, Thoubal district, on Saturday at around 4:30 p.m.
As per reports, the bomb was reportedly spotted by labourers beneath a pile of sand kept in the courtyard of one Moirangthem Nabachandra, 57, a resident of Khangabok Part (III) Lamlong Makha Leikai, for the construction of his house at around 8:30 a.m. The sand was delivered on Thursday after being quarried from the Heirok river.
The owner informed the authorities, and a team from Thoubal PS arrived at the spot and cordoned off the area. Later, the BDS team safely defused the bomb, which weighed around 45 kg, at Langathel hillock.
