Imphal: Jan 25 : The Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, in collaboration with Eco Club-IQAC and the Department of Environmental Science at T.S. Paul Manipur Women’s College, marked World Wetlands Day 2025 with a symposium under the theme “Protecting Wetlands for Our Common Future.”
The event was held at the college’s conference hall, attracting students and faculty alike.
The symposium featured prominent speakers, including Dr. L. Ibochoubi, Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Science, Kshetrimayum Devendra Singh, Principal of T.S. Paul Manipur Women’s College, Dr. Bijaya Thongatabam, Assistant Professor in the Department of Zoology, and other faculty members. Their discussions focused on the importance of wetlands in maintaining ecological balance, preserving biodiversity, and supporting sustainable development.
In his speech, Principal Kshetrimayum Devendra emphasised the need for heightened awareness about wetland conservation, highlighting Manipur’s rich biodiversity, particularly the Loktak Lake, which plays a vital role in the region’s ecological and economic health.
The symposium also saw the participation of students from various colleges, who presented their ideas on the importance of wetland conservation.
The event concluded with a call to action, urging everyone to contribute towards preserving these crucial ecosystems and ensuring their sustainability for the benefit of all.
