Imphal, March 31: In a move to support the artistic community, the Yai School of Artistes has introduced a dedicated welfare fund to provide financial assistance to elderly artistes from the Yaiskul Assembly Constituency.
The initiative will primarily benefit artistes aged 60 and above who are dealing with health-related issues. The fund also aims to extend support to notable contributors to the cultural field, including 14 recipients of the Manipur State Kala Awards from the constituency.
Speaking at a press interaction held at the Manipur Press Club, Director Khwairakpam Bishwamittra said the institution was formally registered in October 2025 and has since taken steps to promote both training and welfare in the arts sector. He highlighted that the school recently completed its first batch of a six-month diploma programme covering theatre, cine arts, and public speaking.
He further noted that the welfare fund has been established in line with the organisation’s registered memorandum. Thokchom Satyabrata Singh, Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, has been designated as the Chief Patron of the fund.
The initiative marks a step towards recognising and supporting senior artistes who have contributed significantly to the cultural landscape but now face financial and health-related challenges.
