Thoubal, October 21: A young man was found dead on Tuesday after reportedly drowning in a pond popularly known as Melei Tampak Pond, located at Heirok Part (II), Thoubal district.
The deceased has been identified as Sapam Dalin Singh (20), son of Kumar, a resident of Khongjom Patpal Maning Leikai. He was a Class XII student of Paradise English School, Thoubal Okram.
According to reports, the tragic incident occurred around 1 p.m. Sources said Dalin, along with about ten classmates, had gone for a picnic at Thamlai village in Tengnoupal district in the morning. On their way back home in the afternoon, they stopped at Melei Tampak Pond in Heirok Part (II), where Dalin reportedly fell into the pond while taking photographs. No one noticed his fall at that moment.
It is said that around 15 minutes after the photo session, his friends realized that Dalin was missing, and his body was later found submerged in the water at around 2:10 p.m.
He was immediately taken to Swiss Hospital, Wangjing-Heirok Crossing, where doctors declared him brought dead.
The body has been handed over to the family after completing necessary formalities.
