Yumnam Khemchand Singh Opens National Sub-Junior Taekwondo Championship in Delhi

Yumnam Khemchand Singh, BJP legislator and former Rural Development Minister, officially inaugurated the 39th National Sub-Junior Kyorugi and 14th National Sub-Junior Poomsae Taekwondo Championship on January 13 at Talkatora Indoor Stadium in New Delhi. The championship is organized by the Delhi Taekwondo Association, affiliated with the Delhi Olympics Association.

Kyorugi represents the fighting aspect of Taekwondo, while Poomsae focuses on its forms, similar to Kata in martial arts. Khemchand Singh, a veteran of the sport, recently earned the 5th Dan in traditional Taekwondo from the Global Traditional Taekwondo Federation in Seoul. He graduated from the World Taekwondo Academy, Kukkiwon, Seoul, in 1991 and played a key role in popularizing Taekwondo in India during the 1980s, contributing to the formation of the Taekwondo Federation of India.

He was the founding president of the All Assam Taekwondo Association in 1982 and has served as vice president of the national federation, helping to promote the sport in Manipur and across the country.
