Dec 12, 2025 (IMP): The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF), a Naga insurgent group operating in Manipur, Nagaland, and Assam and currently in political talks with the Government of India, held its 9th round of Political Talk in New Delhi on December 10 and 11, 2025.
During the two consecutive days of talks, issues concerning the existing administrative structures in the three states were explored with the aim of resolving Zeliangrong political issues.
According to a statement issued by ZUF Secretary (Information & Publicity), Lois Gangmei, the talks also stressed the question of granting maximum autonomy to manage the affairs of the Zeliangrong people in the region. After extensive deliberations, both sides mutually agreed to continue the process of defining a mechanism for structuring an acceptable and pragmatic settlement modality.
It may be mentioned that the outfit, in late 2022, signed a tripartite agreement for ‘cessation of operation’ with the Central and State Governments. Under this agreement, the ZUF committed to renouncing violence and joining the democratic process.
As recently as November 2025, the ZUF welcomed members and leaders from other factions, including the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) [NSCN-IM] and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Unification) [NSCN-U], into its fold. This move was seen as a major step towards consolidating Zeliangrong political aspirations and achieving a united front for their homeland movement.
