APRIL 5, 2026 (IMP): The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) has expressed its indignation at the fratricidal killing of four cadres of NSCN/GPRN on March 28, 2026, at Hongbei village, allegedly by NSCN-IM.
“The brutality of the act committed was not accidental but reflects the habitual superiority nature of NSCN-IM,” stated a statement issued by the Secretary of Information & Publicity of ZUF, Louis Gangmei.
The Zeliangrong United Front conveyed its disheartenment not only over the mindless killing of four cadres but also over the loss of many Zeliangrong cadres in particular and Nagas in the past. It stated that a mere apology or statement of forgiveness will never suffice to do away with divine retribution. The proposed effort of NSCN-IM to depute an investigating team to probe into the matter is seen as an attempt to appease the Nagas and make amends with the affected community, as it has been their only resort option. The Naga People Initiative for Peace is also described as an attempt prompted to address the recent situation in the interest and inducement of NSCN-IM, the statement said.
The ZUF statement added that the version of the narrative clearly reflects the intent and actions of NSCN-IM, while the voices of the public and CSOs were not considered, and wilful acts of terrorism were inflicted upon the people. It stated that similar acts were meted out to the Zeliangrong kindred and other Naga people in the past. Therefore, the public of the Tangkhul community resorted to burning down the NSCN-IM Wung Tangkhul Region camp as a circumstantial consequence. In such a situation, the Government of India’s indifferent attitude towards NSCN, allowing them to move freely in society and causing public unrest and insecurity, was also criticised.
The statement further said that the name NSCN-IM has been associated with activities of violence, communalism, and extortion in society, becoming another identity for the group. It alleged that their history of infighting, creation of multiple Naga factions, killing of thousands of Naga national workers in the name of the Shillong Accord, and continual attempts to disintegrate the Zeliangrong people and their political issues—while fostering hatred and divisions among the Nagas—have long been whitewashed under the pretext of advancing the common Naga cause and leading the Indo-Naga talks with the Government of India.
